A Letter from Molly Kelly:
Hi good and faithful friends in the National Abstinence Clearinghouse Network! How blessed I am to be a part of such a wonderful organization, no, make that family! I am going to write a short story, and I'm calling it "What's going on with Molly Kelly!" First of all, I'm very grateful for all the prayers that so many people have said for me, and believe me they worked! First, let me give you a thumbnail sketch of what happened to me. On January 28, 2001, in the middle of the night, I suffered a cerebral hemorrhage (I finally have learned how to spell it!) I was to leave the next morning for a speaking engagement. Luckily, I had the phone right by my bed when it rang around 7:30am, and, by the grace of God, I answered it!

It was my six year old grandson, Austin, who was in his Daddy's car being driven to school, and he wanted to use the car phone so he called me! How about our God? He speaks to us in dreams, in prayer, in quiet times, and on the telephone! Austin thought I sounded funny so he gave the phone to his Daddy, my son Patrick, who immediately called an ambulance and met it at my home.

To make a long story short, I was in a coma for a month, in a rehab hospital for a month and then I went to live with my sister, Alice (the mother of 15 children!) for a month! I finally returned home in May and there was my youngest son, Dan, who said to me, "I came home to take care of my Mama." My children have been wonderful to me. I lost my oldest son, Jim, in January 2002, and that was much harder than my illness but again God came to my rescue and consoled me.

How am I doing now? I see each day as a gift from God. I sold my big beautiful home where I had lived for 32 years, and I bought a wonderful townhouse right near my parish church where I can walk to every day and spend quiet time with the Lord. I have short-term memory loss. I never even heard of such a thing but I have it and it keeps me humble! I can remember things from years ago, but yesterday is a big blur! I had to turn in my driver's license so I am living a very different life from the hectic schedule I used to have. I hear the Lord saying to me, "Come away and rest with me awhile," and I'm doing just that. Each day I listen for a word from the Lord and then I write it down and flesh it out. I'm hoping to put it in a book and call it, "A Word from the Word!" One of the benefits of my illness is that I am so dependent on the Lord! I so much want to be used by Him. I hope to see some of you at a future National Abstinence Clearinghouse Conference. Until then, thanks for your love and your prayers and please know you have mine!

Love,
Molly
