Advocates of the "morning-after" pill once argued that making the drug over-the-counter and ensuring women's supplies of it would result in a decrease in the rate of unintended pregnancy. Current data suggests that they are wrong.
Emergency contraception, it appears, is not the wonder drug it was purported to be in regards to decreasing rates of unintended pregnancy. Since the FDA approved it for non-prescription sale, there has been no change in said rates.
